TikTok surpasses 1 billion global Monthly Active Users

TikTok has hit a significant milestone.

The wildly popular ByteDance [82 articles]” href=”https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/companies/bytedance/”>ByteDance-owned short form video app revealed today (September 27) that it has over 1 billion global Monthly Active Users (MAUs).

According to a blog post published on the company’s website, “more than 1 billion people around the world now come to TikTok every month to be entertained as they learn, laugh, or discover something new”.

As of October 2020, according to a leaked a B2B pitch deck, the TikTok app was reaching 732 million monthly active users (MAUs) around the world, and more than 100 million MAUs in the United States alone.

As part of its lawsuit filed against the US government in summer 2020, TikTok officially revealed that it counted 689,174,209 global monthly active users (MAUs) as of the end of July 2020.

Which means that, from the end of July 2020 (689.2m MAUs), to October 2020 (732m MAUs), TikTok added approximately 43 million MAUs to its global service – or approximately 14.3 million MAUs worldwide each calendar month during this period.

Speaking in a TikTok video today, Chief Operating Officer Vanessa Pappas said: “Our global TikTok community is now more than 1 billion people strong.

“That means that over 1 billion people around the world now come to TikTok every month to be entertained as they learn, laugh, or discover something new, like sports music, arts and culture, fashion, DIY and more. 

“That’s a billion people every month watching and sharing each others creativity. So on behalf of the TikTok team, I want to say thank you.”
